Journal #2 Ch. 5-8
One thing that I liked about this author is his use of phrases such as, “out of bounds at all times and no exceptions”. He continues that into this section. I just think that it makes the book a lot more enjoyable. I also liked hearing about Maria's story. It is a good way of showing how everyone has their own story, even the family maid. I found it funny how sheltered Bruno is. He doesn't really know how the world works. Then, Bruno finally did something for fun.
I thought that the book was pretty unrealistic up to this point. A kid as young as Bruno would have been bored at Out-With by now. I would have liked the author to put in what Bruno did for fun. Anyway, Bruno built a tire swing, which he, of course, got injured on. When Pavel helped him I had thought that he would get in trouble. Instead, Mother took credit and saved Pavel.
Then there's Grandmother. I think that she's my favorite character because of her wisdom and her seemingly good nature. That's why I was kind of surprised by her when she stormed out after her and Father had argued. I thought that she might have a little bit more self-control.
