Journal #4 Ch. 13-16
Chapter 13 showed how bad the Nazis treated the Jews. Pavel was an underfed Jewish servant. His body was shaky and he accidentally spilled wine on Lt. Kolter. Because of this accident, Pavel was nearly beaten to death. I found that to be stupid. In today's society, Pavel would have been considered an elder. He would have been respected. Nothing like this would ever happen. It was unfair to Pavel.
I found the next chapter to be rather funny. Bruno told his sister that he had an imaginary friend, and she actually believed him. Gretel thought that she was making fun of Bruno, but in reality, Bruno was inwardly making fun of her. He based his imaginary friend right of Shmuel, and Gretel thought that he was childish and crazy.
Bruno had to betray Shmuel. If he didn't, Shmuel would have gotten in more trouble.Even though it's sad, it had to happen. This is also the chapter that the romance between Lt. Kotler and Mother is introduced. TO me it's sad for Lt. Kotler. He knows what could happen to him. His commanding officer is married to the woman that he's having an affair with. In the end he did get punished by being reassigned.
Then grandmother died. It's sad, but I think that it really got to Father. They had left off on a bad note, anf Father never had time to reconcile. It's also sad, because Bruno was really attached to his grandma. And then, he got lice. I thought that it was kind of funny. It also probably made Mother want to leave Out-With even more.
